Well... yeah. There's always the possibility that someone would try to sue Roberto for using the idea (I doubt you would, since you've been on TFW).

If he liked one of your ideas, that's pretty cool. I mean, who wouldn't like to say that a movie writer liked their ideas. Unfortunatley though, it might not go anywhere. There's so many possibilities for TF3, and Roberto's not even sure if he's doing it or not.

But you never know, you could end up like Borelli.

No offense or anything, but Borelli's established himself enough for Roberto and Don to know that he's trustworthy, and he isn't just "gold digging". You haven't been around long at all.

There's a big difference between saying, "Hey are you going to use pretenders?" which is an established brand within Hasbro, and offering a story idea. Biiiiiig difference.

Also, believe it or not, a rule of thumb about spec scripts is it's better to write something SIMILAR to what the person you're submitting is doing (IE: genre, style etc.) but not actually write something with their property/characters, and so forth. Why? Because the reader might not be able to distance themselves from the bias of "That's not what character X would do in my version!" or "That's not the direction I want to go at all!"

For that reason I have non-property spec scripts for various genres (comedy, horror, fantasy) that I can submit as samples of my work if needed.

Well, another general rule of thumb with properties is people may be fine with something, but once there's a ton of (perceived) money involved, perspectives change quickly.

Pretender Concept

The Following is an Idea to put in the Pretender concept from the G1 toy line, now lets be honest, Pretenders usually don’t get very good feedback from the fans, mostly they are seen as one of the “Concepts” that “killed” off G1.

I think that’s unfair and was probably more attributed to the fact the Pretenders were “Poor” toys comparing them to earlier Transformers.

So why include them in a Movie …

Put simply the “Concept” is Brilliant and with some small tweaking could make for a really interesting character.

So here is my Pitch/Idea for a Pretender in the Movie’verse, Again as ever All ideas are just that and I give them freely to be mutated/rewritten/stolen ect ect and expect nothing in return.

In G1 the Pretender was a Transformer that resided in a Shell

This Shell would Split apart and the One would become two.

For the most Part Decepticon Pretenders were Monsters in Shell Mode huge and terrifying, the Autobots mostly a Human shell but Still 60ft … some what silly, also in Japan the Pretenders could Mass Shift to human size … again silly for a Movie.

To me the Pretender is all about observing your surroundings and adapting to blend in the best you can, To a transformer who can replicate Organic looking components ((Fabrics of chairs in a car, tires ect)) It would just be another form of “Hiding”

As the Transformers now know more about humans it would make logical sense that some might Assume Human looking alts.

Some for good, taking on a look that is more acceptable to a humans eye and could help with mediating or negotiations, or from a Decepticon point infiltration.

From a dramatic point what better than the person your sitting next to suddenly transforming in a Decepticon and going on a rampage.

So my idea put simply is that a Smaller Decepticon or Autobot .. would Scan a Human ((Perhaps even a manikin or waxwork)) and Assume that form as a Alt, Perhaps not even being able to do much in human Alt mode but looking very convincing in a busy street where people would just walk past and not notice.

The “Shell” would be like the “Parts” that the protoforms get in the first movie that allow them to assume the Helicopters and Cars ect … the Pretender would be the same but have Human’esk Parts over it, giving it a freaky otherworldly perhaps even Zombie look, The way they might Transform could be a little bit like this

This would be something “New” to transformer lore a Transformer than Transforms into a human form, not a terminator with and endo skeleton or something bursting out but actually transforming into a robot, this I believe would also be something not seen on film.

SKORPONOK

Skorponok simply disappears in the movie and we don’t see him ever again, his appearance was rather substantial and there is a lot of “potential” for his further involvement in the franchise, Skorps resurrection could be shown in a new film, from a branding point of view a toy has already been made so it could be reused or decoloured.

We flash back to the Decepticons being cast into the sea, we follow both the hulking forms of Megatron and Blackout slowly dropping into the vast black ocean,

Something stirs …. It appears that the US navy missed that Blackout was still holding Skorponok.

Skorponok although damaged had been retrieved by Blackout before Starscreams call to the decepticons and although not fighting in the final battle now he had remained hidden, attached to his master Blackout.

Now as the hulking form of Blackout descends into oblivion Skorponok detaches … A barracuda nibbling at megatrons lifeless body is scanned by Skorps and he assumes a giant robotical version of this fish (Side note, the Giant Barracuda is natural to the Laurentian Abyss where the Decepticons are cast)

Skorponoks new form gives him the measurability he needs, he Grabs Blackout/Megatron in his powerful Jaws and Swims off into the vast Ocean ………

BONECRUSHER

A firm Fan fave, never got the Screen time he deserved (IMO) and has attracted something of a Cult fave (Which im sure he Hates) He was “Killed” by Prime but his body is never shown being cast into the sea so there is room for him coming back, his resurrection would be better suited to Prequel Comics or material for a new film, and could be briefly explained in a movie via Dialog Perhaps

Bonecrusher “You Left me for Dead Prime, … You Should have Made Sure I was Dead, Believe me Ill make sure YOU are dead once I have finished with you !”

Bonecrusher Heavily damaged and with surrounding motorists and the Government inbound scans a passing Truck and Trailer reformatting into a new alt mode, he slowly pulls away, people Snapping with there phones, his disappears into the distance.

Over time he has fully recovered and now holds a Grudge against Prime, in his new Alt mode his is determined to become the new “King of the Road” and wipe Prime off the face of the planet !

HASBRO don’t have the rights to the name so Bonecrusher would effectively be Motormaster, there personalities are similar and it would also be great to have a “Anti Prime” of sorts and could be the basis for some great set Pieces

I always thought sending a PM to Bob just for the sake of telling him about your ideas was kinda inappropriate.


Nevertheless, I don't think Borelli sparked the idea. At most, knowing that there is a precedent for pretenders might have validated the idea for Bob. But the fact is, a girl who tries to seduce Sam while Mikaela catches him "cheating" that turns out to be a robot is one of those terrible ideas that Baycorp would've cooked up on its own.
