Not clear who is coming back yet, but the main reason we would move on is because we risk getting stale and comfortable. If you only sing one song for too long, you miss the opportunity to sing news songs. We'll see.

That's true. (I'd sung one song nine years.) But still we'll miss you.

Besides, just three of movies are not too many. Don't you think so?

what were your (O and K) specific writing chores for the first two movies?

you rewrote a screen story, rewrote a first draft, rewrote a second or third draft of the primary author, wrote multiple drafts with Rogers and Kruger or separately, etc?

would you be interested in penning the scripts alone? if not, what's the risk of rewriting in terms of your own creativity? just wondering as you genuinely seem to enjoy the characters and you're obviously open to collaboration.

Funny. I used to ask fans 'Why do you still want us to write more game sequels and prequels?'. But now, I beg Bob to write more movie sequels.

You don't want to become the Vanilla Ice of the movie writers scene eh?

Or the Sandy guy from Along came Polly.. Just love Philip Seymour Hoffman ... He should have played Sam though..

Omegawrath, Zaruga and I have already been tapped for TF3. They provide the writing talent and they have me down as "story editor". Which means I hate on everything until it's perfect.

I hope you come back for the third installment , Bob. On the other hand, I get why you'd want to do something else to keep your writing chops fresh. I will miss the boards if you're not here, but if you do something else, I hope you keep talking to your fans.

I'd give my kingdom if you wrote a screen play for the Belgariad and the Mallorean. Cheers Bob

As long as we're giving suggestions for what Bob and Alex should do next; Superman, Bob? You guys writing it would pretty much be the only thing that would give me confidence in that franchise again.

You know, I think Superman has been done to death. Superman's movies should take a break.

Now, a Justice League movie, on the otherhand, can be done (Yes, even with Superman), so long as Lex freakin' Luther isn't the villain or anywear near it (Darksied, anyone? ).

That's why I said I'd only trust Bob and Alex to do this. The guys that made Star Trek look interesting to me would be ideal to making Superman interesting again after Superman Returns.

I know. My only fear is that I've heard WB wants to reboot the whole damn Superman franchise, which scares the hell out of me.

I'd rather have a well written sequal. I'm sick to death of all of these "reboots". Probably why I havent stepped foot in a theatre since Transformers.

So Bob, a little on and off topic: If you did write a Superman movie, which villain would you use?

I'd love to see a Superman movie with Parasite, or Darksied would be better.

Heck, you could do a whole trilogy based on Darksied if done right. In Justice League and Justice League Unlimited those two hated eachother so much it was crazy. It made Superman's hatred for Lex seem tame.

Actually, a reboot would pretty much be the only reason I ever would see a Superman movie again. I mean, I liked Routh pretty good and all, its just that the storyline Singer told was just horrible for the character. Making Superman ditch Lois for five years without telling her where he was going, having him spy on her when she was with her boyfriend, that night flight where it seemed like he was trying to seduce her away from her boyfriend, having an illegitimate kid with her who thinks another man is his daddy...just, no. That's not Superman. And any sequel would just be that Superman again. I don't like that Superman.

So yeah, I wouldn't mind if Routh starred again, so long as he was playing a different version of Superman. Written by Roberto and Alex preferably.

What if he starts to clean his act up in the next one?

Old goody two-shoes Superman was a bore. Superman Returns was fantastic and hugely underrated. Well done to Singer for actually making me give a shit what happened to Superman.

The kid kinda makes that line of thought irrelevant.

There's a difference between Superman being a flawed human being and Superman being a jerk. Singer's Superman, he was a jerk. The really sad thing is, just one or two changes to the script, such as removing the kid or having the five year absence being beyond Superman's control, and the rest of the movie would have worked a lot better.

As for caring about Superman...well, let me put it like this. When he got shanked in the side, I actually thought, "Good. The bastard deserved it for being so stupid throughout the rest of the movie." I don't think that's what Singer was going for. I felt more sympathy for the Richard and Lois characters than for Superman.

To bolded: This is where we differ. I don't like remakes just based on principal as is. Superman is a well established franchise for what, 50, 60 years? Why in the hell would they want to change it NOW after all this time? Yeah. Good to see Hollywood can treat all those decades of history as trash.

Next thing you know we'll get Superman with flames on his costume.

What Hollywood needs to learn is that just because you CAN change it, doesn't mean you SHOULD.

Yeah, Superman Returns was a 2+ hour borefest and it sucked because of it. Lex Luthor has been done to death, so that didn't help the movie any. I think that if they can't do any better, then they shouldn't do it at all until someone competent enough can come along and move on to a new villain/story (ala Spiderman).

All that is needed is one writer with the nads and gumption (He-hem, looking at you, Bob) to tell the directors like Singer: "No, THIS is how the franchise works. It has a good core-source material and it does NOT need to be changed. Supes doesn't need some bastard child and the Supes we know wouldn't spy and steel a relationship away. And, by the way, I'm going to freshen up the franchise a bit by introducing a NEW villain: The Parasite. A villain who can absorb Superman's powers is a neat idea and the crowds would love it!"

That's all that is needed. Nothing more, nothing less.

I present to you, Man of Steel and Birthright. Two reboots of the Superman franchise, the former a complete overhaul which started the non-klutzy Clark, the businessman Luthor and a downplaying of the Kryptonian side of Superman, favoring what makes him human. It also powered him down a bit. The latter was just a reboot of his origin. And hey, this year they're doing it again.

Superman can and perhaps should get a rebooted origin movie specifically because the very fundamental basics of Superman have been rewritten, re-rewritten and then thrown out and done over again several times since the Donner movies. Now, after Superman Returns, is the perfect opportunity to showcase those changes in film form. If any movie could ever get away with a remake, Superman is that movie.

I don't know. Superman is probably THE biggest superhero in our popculture. it's going to be VERY hard to do it right and with out pissing off half of the world (including me.). I'm the type of fan who only watches the movies and stuff, so comic reboots and such mean little-to-nothing to me. So rebooting this thing is going be very HUGE and tough for someone like me to accept, especially those who have lived long enough since his comic-birth (Thank god I'm only 24 in June lol.).

A project like that is going to have to be held with EXTREME care.

Still, Just because Hollywood can, doesn't mean they SHOULD.

That was an official story arc. The Electric Superman Saga. Its out in trade if you want it.

That's pretty much why I'm using Man of Steel and such right there. They have redone it. They have used extreme care. And it did work. The same thing that turned Batman back into the Dark Knight again is what reinvigorated Superman with Man of Steel. If a new movie is to be made, for it to work it must be based on the Post-Crisis, more human Superman, not the Earth spinning backwards, memory kissing Donner Superman. At the very least, that version of Lex has scarier plans than land swindling. He also doesn't wear wigs.
